The Supreme Court has refused to quash the defamation suit filed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Supreme Court said that Sisodia should have unconditionally apologized to Sarma for his superficial statements. Now he should face trial.

Earlier, the Gauhati High Court has also rejected Sisodia’s petition. Sisodia, who had accused Sarma and his wife of irregularities in the PPE kit deal, defended himself in the Supreme Court saying that he did not mean that Sarma was corrupt. He raised questions on only one contract.

What did the Supreme Court say?

Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S Oka rejected this argument of Sisodia’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Justice Kaul said, “Watch your language.
